Disc Breaks with Llupa ft. resistor – 320 – 8th January 2015

Jan 8, 2015 | Disc Breaks

It’s 2015 and the DBS is back with it’s weekly dose of the quality deep stuff!

This week we have resistor on the guest mix showcasing his long play album ‘Nature Of My Circuitry’ which came out on VIM over Christmas. The album is so. damn. phatt. with a solid rock edge – make sure you grab a copy. The mix showcases much of the album as well as some unreleased stuff from the Robosapiens, of which he is part of.

Grab the album here – ’tis wicked! http://www.beatport.com/release/the-nature-of-my-circuitry/1428008

The ability to incorporate multiple genres while still retaining your own sound is an admirable quality, and one such trait resistor prides himself on achieving. From early hip hop, glitched out electronica, to rock metal and film score, all of which in some way play a part in creating the resistor sound. Phill’s musical history is a long and varied one. Starting out playing guitar in local Brisbane metal Bands from 1990-1997, he always had the passion to create music on his own terms. It wasn’t until the late 90’s technology allowed this to happen.

To cut a long story short, he discovered electronic music in the form of Big Beat. Through names like the Crystal method, Propellerheads, Chemical Bros and Fatboy Slim, the connection grew closer between his rock & metal roots to his new-found love for chunky beat driven dance music. From 2003 to 2007, Phill was a co-manager of Brisbane’s premier breakbeat/D&B club night – phats Albeats, which at the time was the longest running club night of its type. Running monthly events at the Empire – Fortitude Valley.

In March 2012, resistor made his first full length album début on 96KHz Productions. With almost 2 weeks at number one on the Beatport top 100 breaks charts, and reaching 39 overall, the album was favourably received by the DJ and electronic music community. Phill is now a member of UK electronic outfit – robosapiens, in which he has been collaborating with over the past 12 months on a full length release, due out in 2014.

The latest offering from the resistor camp is new full length album – the nature of my circuitry, which has just dropped on VIM records.
