Tonight we welcomed back part of the Disc Breaks family to the show – Mesmer! The man and his label Scarcity Records have been a stalwart on the show as never fail to bring the quality deep breaks… This latest showcases why Mesmer and Scarcity Records really are at the top of their game at the moment – respect!
My mix was kinda in reverse – started with some groovy big beat, into some nu-skool and then into the deeper end… so much cool tunage out at the moment.
Mesmer
Mesmer has been the broken beats pioneer in Romania since 1996. Founder of the first Romanian breakbeat label Scarcity Records and responsible for producing the first ever Romanian breaks album, Furious Fish released on Sound Of Habib in 2008. Mesmer has quickly become known as one of the finest producers the country has to offer and has had support from many of the biggest names around: Annie Nightingale on Radio One, Jay Cunning on Kiss FM, Matt Darey’s “Nocturnal” and many more. With releases on high profile record labels such as Future Perfect (of Hardcore Beats crew), Bombtraxx and Sound Of Habib, Mesmer is building a reputation as one to watch, and as of 2009 Mesmer has launched his own label Scarcity Records.
With an eclectic view, Scarcity drops mainly breaks and sometimes even tech-house, dubstep and drum and bass tracks for the dance floors worldwide while maintaining a catalogue of productions that sets a standard of quality. If you like your beats dipped in lush melodies, acidic hooks and thunderous basslines, then this is a label worthy of your attention. Scarcity has become one of the most consistent labels around today and recently won the “Best New Label” award at the biggest international breakbeat awards Breakspoll in 2011 held in London, UK. Mesmer’s productions continue to gather support and top the charts around the scene while Scarcity has been gathering pace with every release.
He is easily recognised by his stylish own signature sounding breakbeat when it comes to production, and as a performer his skills behind the decks have also led to headlining appearances across Europe and Asia.
